Saturday Snow Update

February 6, 2010

Watch/Warning/Advisory Map For Central Indiana

A Snow Man-ning

The Winter Weather Advisory for blowing and drifting snow is now extended to 5pm Saturday.

THE MAIN PROBLEM NOW WILL BE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AS WIND
GUSTS IN NEAR 30 MPH MAY OCCUR. SNOW FALL FROM THIS STORM HAS
RANGED FROM ABOUT 10 INCHES OVER EAST CENTRAL INDIANA TO ABOUT 6
INCHES IN THE INDIANAPOLIS METRO AREA TO A COUPLE OF INCHES IN OUR
FAR SOUTHWEST.

UNTREATED AND UNPLOWED ROADS...PARTICULARLY IN RURAL AREAS MAY BE
SNOW COVERED DUE TO BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY WILL BE IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON FOR
BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO PUSH FURTHER EAST LATE THIS
AFTERNOON...ALLOWING GUSTY WINDS TO SUBSIDE. THIS SHOULD BRING AN
END TO THE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW.

(For an hour by hour update on the storm’s arrival Friday go here.)

Warnings and Advisories continue until 10am.  Winds have gusted to around 30-40mph.  Roads are still a problem.  I-69 was closed at one point near mile marker 15 in Hamilton County.  State Road 37 was hit badly with drifts in Madison County.

Blowing snow is the biggest deal this morning as accumulating snow moves off to the east.  Snow showers are possible today, and more real snow is possible by late Monday.

How much fell yesterday?  We were right at 8 inches here at Studio B in Hamilton County.  The official Indianapolis total was 6.1.” I see a couple of isolated reports of 9 inches around Muncie, New Castle, and Richmond, and of course, drifts are much higher.
